Transitions

When the decision is made to transition children into the next age appropriate room, there are a few factors that are taken into consideration. Children being developmentally ready, family approval and if there is a place available for the child within the next group are all considered before the transition takes place.

The orientation process for children moving into the next age appropriate room involves consultation with families to ensure that the process is positive for both the child and the family. We ensure that throughout the process the staff will work in partnership with the families to support the child through the transition.

Sleep/Rest Time

All children are given the opportunity to sleep/rest at the centre. Some young children will sleep; others who have outgrown their day sleep will be encouraged to rest, read, play quiet games or construct puzzles.

Parent/ guardian requests about their child’s sleep patterns will be adhered to, as far as possible. Please remember that in group care there are many distractions and children’s sleep patterns may vary slightly from their sleep pattern at home. Baby’s sleeps are according to need and routine. Our educators will meet babies individual sleep requirements. At no time will a child at the centre be forced to take a sleep. If parents/guardians are experiencing difficulties with their child not sleeping at night, please feel welcome to discuss this with the room educators.
